Attic Clean Up

You might not think of attic restoration as a companion service to wildlife removal and nuisance animal control. Still, the fact is, the two services go hand in hand, and no one is more qualified to perform this valuable service than the professionals at Matt’s Animal Control. As nuisance animal removal specialists, we know that the attic is one of your home’s most accessible entry points and an unfortunate target for many animals, including bats, birds, squirrels, raccoons, and more. At Matt’s, we are highly skilled attic restoration experts and offer this service to our community, regardless of whether or not you also need our assistance with an animal control problem.

The Necessity Of Attic Restoration

Insulation doesn’t last forever. It eventually degrades, loses its heat-retaining efficiency, or experiences damage. Water leakage, electrical issues, dirt, or simply age can be the culprit, but this often occurs due to pest invasions. When nuisance animals and insects find their way into an attic, the insulation is rarely left unscathed. Some animals, like squirrels, treat it like a free version of the hardware store, swiping bits of your insulation to use it for bedding elsewhere. Other animals move right in and nest in the insulation. (This includes rodents, birds, and raccoons.) Either way, the material is ripped up and contaminated by dirt, debris, urine, feces (especially bats), and possibly the carcasses of dead animals.

Restoration is a professional service that involves the removal of faulty insulation and its replacement with new insulation materials that are thoughtfully chosen to provide optimal insulating performance and, in keeping with our expertise, improved animal control.

The Restoration Process & Procedures

The process begins with a thorough inspection to identify what materials need to be replaced and determine what new materials best suit your needs, including the insulation and the attic’s ventilation system. (Without proper ventilation and airflow, moisture can accumulate and create mold and mildew problems.) We also check to make sure you don’t have gaps leaving you susceptible to an intrusion and check to ensure that you have the proper barriers in place around heat-producing devices (three inches is the general rule). We then follow this up with a detailed consultation with the homeowner. While you may occasionally be surprised by an invasive pest, we promise that you won’t get any surprises from Matt’s Animal Control.

The next step is the removal of the old or compromised materials. We do this in a careful, controlled manner, typically wearing PPE (personal protective equipment) and using an insulation vacuum and blower to ensure that harmful or contaminated materials do not get disbursed into other parts of the home. If contaminants, waste, or animal decomposition result from a wildlife invasion, we remove that. Next comes the cleaning process. We clean, disinfect, and sanitize to the highest-level industry standards.

An important note about D-I-Y Cleaning: Some homeowners may be inclined to attempt this clean-up themselves; however, we’d like to caution you that this is a terrible idea. Without the proper protective gear and containment equipment, this endeavor can be hazardous to your health because of potentially dangerous pathogens. Special solvents and commercial-grade products are necessary to obtain optimal results, and those are not generally available over the counter to homeowners. Additionally, you could inadvertently spread those contaminants throughout your home. Trained professionals should handle this task.

Once clean, we install the new materials, clean up signs of our presence, and leave you with a fresh, secure, newly-restored attic and the peace of mind that comes along with that.
